SPE Russia and Caspian Regional Student Paper Contest

On 14-15 October 2021, the SPE Regional Student Paper Contest was held online alongside the 2021 SPE Russian Petroleum Technology Conference. The contest was arranged in 3 divisions and gathered 18 students from 13 oil and gas universities throughout the region.

The Judging Committee was composed of the following members: Ksenia Budkina, Senior Geologist at TotalEnergies, Aynura Ismayilova, Reservoir Engineer at Schlumberger, Juan Carlos Del Pozo, Managed Pressure Drilling Engineer at Weatherford, Regina Nafikova, Reservoir Engineer at Rn-BashNIPIneft and Aleksandr Kuvichko, RCA DELFI Product Manager at Schlumberger, Moscow Research & Digital.

The winners are:

Bachelors Division

  • “Waterflood Optimization on the West Siberia Field with Hydrodynamic Modelling” by Vladislav Dormenev, Gubkin University.

Masters Division

  • “Coining A New Concept: Drilling in Incompatible Conditions” by Oussama Brahimi, Saint Petersburg Mining University.

PhD Students Division

  • “The Potential of Hydrogen Production from Gas Fields” by Pavel Afanasev, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.

Winners in each category will represent the region at the SPE International Student Paper Contest alongside the 2022 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE).

Submission for the next Student Paper Contest will be open in January 2022.
