Geoscientists play a vital role in the energy sector, and their holistic vision of our planet systems and processes offers a special perspective that can accelerate the advancement of sustainability goals. This presentation will share why the pursuit of solutions for great crisis of the humanity, the environment, and the access to energy as a way of improving our well-being at global scale benefits from including geoscientists. The creation of enhanced and inclusive energy transition narratives, the envisioning of collaboration opportunities to diminish hazards, and the formulation of new legislations and guidelines for fostering conservation urgently need the participation of more geoscientists.

A renowned leader and author in the energy sector, Maria Angela Capello (“MAC”) is a relentless fighter for Sustainability and Equity across the industry. She is Managing Director of Red Tree Consulting and Executive Vice-President of the Carbon storage company RESI. MAC is an active collaborator of the United Nations, and numerous non-profit geo-centric organizations such as the SPE, SEG and AAPG. Her passion lies in promoting the juxtaposition of the geosciences and the future of the energy industry through training, mentoring, corporate resilience, and diversity & inclusion initiatives. Her work has been recognized by the Italian Government through the “Star of Italy” honor (knighthood), and by the UNESCO endorsing her work leading the “Geosciences Sustainable Development Atlas” to advance the SDGs across the geosciences.
