SPE Workshop: Carbonates: New Frontiers Results

Posted on 11 March 2020

The SPE Workshop: Carbonates: New Frontiers took place on 26-27 February 2020 in Moscow for the fifth time. The prominent industry expert, Alexander Gavura of LUKOIL-Engineering opened the Workshop.

The Workshop gathered 60 delegates from the leading oil and gas companies, including Baker Hughes, Equinor, Gazprom Neft, LUKOIL, Rosneft, Tatneft, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Zarubezhneft, and many other.

Attendees had an opportunity to participate not only in traditional technical sessions on geology, modeling, development, and intensification, but also listen to presentations at expert hour on modern approaches to acid and proppant fracturing in carbonate reservoirs delivered by authors from the Rosneft Upstream Peer Review and Technical Development Center, and discuss the key topics during a round table on production prospects of undeveloped reserves. Thanks to Zarubezhneft and Equinor we covered not only Russian experience, but also some foreign projects.

Delegates discussed the current issues and ideas for the future workshop. In 2022, we plan to share case studies of failed development in carbonates and the lessons learned.

Committee and moderators selected the best presentations:

1. Arnout Colpaert, A. Waldum., A. Jurkiw, D. Hunt, A. Chandler, F. Lapponi, O. Wenneberg, Equinor ASA. Lower Cretaceous Pre-Salt Carbonates in Brazil. Unique depositional systems with Classic Carbonate Production Challenges

2. Vladislav Shakirov, TNNC. Oil reserves allocation in complex carbonate reservoir of Frasnian reefs near Volostnovsky area, Orenburg Region

3. Elena Kolbikova, Paradigm Geophysical. Special logging methods for carbonate reservoirs study and fractured zones allocation4. Maxim G. Novikov, A. I. Islamov, Sheshmaoil

4. Maksim Novikov, A. Islamov, Sheshmaoil. The Evolution of Production Intensification Methods in the Development of JSC “Sheshmaoil” Tournaisian Stage Deposits - From Acid Jobs to Hybrid Fracs

See you in 2022!
