27 February–3 March 2017, the SPE Week took place at Gubkin University.
Members of SPE Gubkin University Student Chapter worked out an extensive programme, offering the students and the faculties a chance to visit different events during 5 days.
The first event was the Open Registration day that took place in RU-Energy lobby, where the students learned how to join SPE.
On 28 February, the Open Doors Day took place. The Chapter Committee Heads presented not only the projects, which they are working on, but also SPE International projects, and answered all questions.
On 1 March participants had an opportunity to take part in various events. Ten students of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, who won the contest that was organized in social media, visited the Schlumberger scientific-research center in Moscow. During the excursion, they learned about experiments that are held in one of the best laboratories in Moscow and the equipment. Particular attention was given to recently patented technology “Digital core”, which allows one to create a precise three-dimensional layer model on the basis of extracted core sample.
Also on 1 March, the senior specialist of HR management of Repsol Irina Stepanova and the department head of HR management of Repsol Tatyana Razorenova conducted a training. It was dedicated to the problem of building up a career. The students could find out what specialists large energy companies need. Schlumberger company specialist, petrophysicist Alexander Eremeev held a lecture on the following topic: “Acoustic logging”. Such questions as physical basics of the acoustic methods, the problems which can be solved through it, the equipment, used by the company (DSI, Sonic Scanner) and its features, and also the interpretation of obtained logging data were considered.
On 2 March the master-class “Secrets of scientific work presentation” was presented by Riverson Oppong. The audience was really fascinated with the orator’s speech and tried to find answers to the questions, that were put forward to public discussion, with real interest.
On 3 March two events took place: the lecture “Engineering methods of field development technical indices forecast” given by Veronika Korepanova, the lead engineer of LUKOIL-Engineering department of design and analysis of priority deposits development. The lecturer told about the basic indices and processes that accompany the development of oil and gas deposits. During the economic game “Oil Rush”, organized by Gubkin SPE Student Chapter in collaboration with the Higher School of Economics, participants tried themselves as top-managers of energy companies, buying and selling deposits and shares, hiring the best managers and trying to make “their company” the market leader.
