On 2 March 2017 Kevin Fischer, American Petrophysicist of Schlumberger, gave a lecture in the St. Petersburg State University. The topic was "Integration from Multiple Disciplines in Horizontal Well Evaluations to Increase Production in Organic Rich Shales". The lecture was organized within the framework of the program "Distinguished Lecturer".
The students of the chapter organized the excursion for Kevin where he had an opportunity to get acquainted with the sights of Saint Petersburg and communicate with the students in informal settings.
On 9 March 2017 the Open Doors Day was held at the St. Petersburg State University. During the event, the officers of SPE Student Chapter told about the structure of the SPE and the role of students in its activities. The officers of the North-West Professional Section and specialists of Gazprom Neft, Bolshakov Maxim and Samolenkov Sergey, visited the chapter. They shared plans of the professional section for 2017 and discussed the ways of further cooperation with the Student Chapter.
On 23 March 2017, students organized a webinar on the topic "The Unfulfilled Expectation of the Horizontal Wells with the Multi-Stage in the Conventional Reservoirs - What to do?" at the Scientific and Technical Center of Gazprom Neft. The lector was Kurt Kreso, a well-known specialist of Schlumberger company.
On 1 April 2017, students were able to take part in the quest called “Day of Geologist”. All tasks were dedicated to geological topics, so that students could demonstrate not only their logical skills, but also use the knowledge gained in the lectures. The quest items were located on Vasilievsky Island, and even the rainy weather did not scare the brave geologists, all the teams reached the finish.
On 14 April 2017, the specialists of Scientific and Technical Center of Gazprom Neft held the first lecture. The specialist of department of geology and development Mikhail Naugolnov told about Development Management of Hydrocarbon Fields and Analysis of Waterflooding. The lecture was attended by more than 90 people, including students from St. Petersburg Mining and other universities.
